The anologue signal will be switched off completely in 2012. This is called Digital Switchover (DSO). The only free services avaliable to the general public will then be Freeview and Freesat. Nearly all new TV's sold in the UK have a Freeview receiver built in to them which is one of the reasons why Freeview is and will continue to be the biggest platform in the UK in terms of overall viewers per channel.
